According to a recent Washington Post article, American CEO's are beginning to put a strain on the American economy. Amid war, increasing fuel prices, and massive layoffs, the brightest spot in our economy seems to be executive salaries.
The Post article states that the median wage increase for top executives was over 2.5 times the average median wage increase.
Do top corporate executives need compensation that is counter-intuitive to market economics? I recall seeing a CEO in a television interview who said they sure do. He said he would not even be able to enter the houses of some of his fellow CEO's if he made less money than they do. Is this a true need or is this just greed? This rash of materialism that is tearing our country apart must somehow come into check.
