Time Warner May Offer AOL For Free
Back to Full Blog

Time Warner may announce a plan to offer free subscriptions to their AOL services in an effort to keep customers who have switched to broadband. This will also help them increase advertising revenue. About 20% of AOL’s revenue is generated from Advertising. Time Warner purchased AOL in 2003.

Year Adj. Close
1996 2.70
2006 17.13

A 634% increase in value. In other words, if you had invested $100 in AOL back in 1996 your stock would be worth over $634 today. Not a bad return on investment.

Yeah, I missed out on it too. It's always easier to pick stocks in hindsight.

Time Warner would have to pay me big bucks to use their AOL service. Free doesn't do it.

I agree, but there are those who are loyal to AOL. Like the stream here, AOL is a community. I was surprised when I worked in tech-supp at the University just how many students kept AOL even though they had free access through the school. Talk about a support nightmare.
